Born in Italy, Riccardo Finizia
comes to live in Canada in 1966. He studies drawing
and painting in Montréal and Edmonton. During
his prolonged stay in Western Cananda, he started sculpting
wood and exposed himself to native art. During a 3 year
stay in Sardegna, he renewed his contact with stone.
He teaches sculptures on stone during a few years and
participates in quite a few exhibitions in Québec
and Ontario.
For him, sculpting is the most direct, the most intense
relation that man can establish with nature. His primary
objective is the simplicity of form. Many of his sculptures
are part of public and private collections.
